Clovis Nomads rugby

There are two words that you would never put together:  “Clovis” and “Rugby”.

The story begins with a lot of Americans, a few English, a few Irish and a few South Africans finding one thing in common - Rugby. So the Clovis Nomads were born.

The Nomads first ever match in 2008 was against Texas Tech (young and fit college boys), who thought that playing a bunch of middle age/older men would be a breeze, how wrong where they! Clovis Nomads won 37-12.

The 2008 – 2009 year was a great first year for the Clovis Nomads. Even with 75% of the team playing rugby for the first time, you would have never guessed, the Nomads finished their first ever season winning 3 out of their 6 games.

The 2009 – 2010 year started off on a great footing with a panel of 30 players and training regularly. The Nomads joined the Rio Grande League where they will play a total of 10 games, some home and some away. There are also a number of friendly matches, the High Plains Tournament in October and the Albuquerque Irish festival, it’s a full schedule and the Club is already looking at fielding a second team.
